Three New Destinations for PLAY‘s Summer Schedule

PLAY has added three new destinations to its summer schedule for 2022 with flights to Gothenburg in Sweden twice a week as well as Stavanger and Trondheim in Norway, also twice weekly. This means that Scandinavian travelers can fly straight to Iceland next summer, enjoy its stunning natural beauty, its diverse attractions and quirky culinary experiences in the safety of Iceland’s world-renowned culture of wellness.

Otherworldly Attractions within Reach

Often called the Land of Fire and Ice because of its volcanoes and glaciers it offers brand-new lava fields to explore on one side and everchanging glacier experiences on the other.  Iceland is dotted with natural wonders such as geothermal areas, geysers, record-setting waterfalls, accessible highlands, glaciers, rivers, black beaches, five gait horses, mountains, puffins, valleys, whales, deserts and hidden oases.

All of it is accessible from the capital area where you can embark on various driving excursions that take you around the volcano island. The Ring Road covers many of the most popular attractions in Iceland but recent routes worth mentioning are the Westfjordsway, the Arctic Coastway in the North of Iceland and the Diamond Circle which takes you to the otherworldly landscapes around lake Myvatn.

The three new Scandinavian destinations also ensure the charm of the Nordic countries is easily attainable and well covered by PLAY’s schedule.

Low-Cost, Relaxed and Comfortable PLAY

PLAY is a new low-cost airline operating flights between Iceland and Europe. PLAY is based in Reykjavík’s Keflavík International Airport and started operations in June 2021.  PLAY’s current fleet of three A321neo connects passengers to ten locations across Europe. Next spring, PLAY will have added new aircraft to its fleet before launching services to North America, providing low-cost and efficient transatlantic flights to the Scandinavian market.

Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY states: "We think the Nordic market has been underserved and we are therefore pleased to be able to improve access to this wonderfully colorful region of Europe. Adding these three destinations means we can begin to explore what our Scandinavian brothers and sisters offer and in turn, Iceland becomes accessible at a time when the country is literally changing before our eyes with new lava fields that can be easily explored. We are expecting a strong turnaround for tourism in Iceland with holiday travelers looking towards the region as well as increased business travel."
