Prohibited and Restricted Items on PLAY Airlines 

To ensure everyone’s safety, certain items are prohibited from either carry-on or checked baggage—or both. Some items may be allowed under strict conditions.
Please review the following categories carefully before packing. 

LIST OF PROHIBITED ARTICLES (CABIN BAGGAGE)

Passengers are not permitted to carry the following articles into security restricted areas and on board an aircraft:

Guns, firearms and other devices that discharge projectiles – devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury by discharging a projectile, including:
  • - Firearms of all types, such as pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns.
  • - Toy guns, replicas, and imitation firearms capable of being mistaken for real weapons.
  • - Component parts of firearms, excluding telescopic sights.
  • - Compressed air and carbon dioxide guns, such as pistols, pellet guns, rifles, and ball bearing guns.
  • - Signal flare pistols and starter pistols.
  • - Bows, cross bows, and arrows.
  • - Harpoon guns and spear guns.
  • - Slingshots and catapults.

Stunning devices – devices designed specifically to stun or immobilise, including:
  • - Devices for shocking, such as stun guns, Tasers, and stun batons.
  • - Animal stunners and animal killers.
  • - Disabling and incapacitating chemicals, gases, and sprays, such as mace, pepper sprays, capsicum
  • sprays, tear gas, acid sprays and animal repellent sprays.

Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge – objects with a sharp point or sharp edge capable of being used to cause serious injury, including:
  • - Items designed for chopping, such as axes, hatchets and cleavers.
  • - Ice axes and ice picks.
  • - Razor blades; - Box cutters.
  • - Knives with blades of more than 6cm.
  • - Scissors with blades of more than 6cm as measured from the fulcrum.
  • - Martial arts equipment with a sharp point or sharp edge.
  • - Swords and sabres.

Workmen’s tools – tools capable of being used either to cause serious injury or to threaten the safety of aircraft, including:
  • - Crowbars.
  • - Drills and drill bits, including cordless portable power drills.
  • - Tools with a blade or a shaft of more than 6cm capable of use as a weapon, such as screwdrivers
  • and chisels.
  • - Saws, including cordless portable power saws.
  • - Blowtorches.
  • - Bolt guns and nail guns.

Blunt instruments – objects capable of being used to cause serious injury when used to hit, including:
  • - Baseball and softball bats.
  • - Clubs and batons, such as billy clubs, blackjacks and night sticks.
  • - Martial arts equipment.

Explosives and incendiary substances and devices – explosives and incendiary substances and devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury or to pose a threat to the safety of aircraft, including:
  • - Ammunition; - Blasting caps.
  • - Detonators and fuses.
  • - Replica or imitation explosive devices.
  • - Mines, grenades, and other explosive military stores.
  • - Fireworks and other pyrotechnics.
  • - Smoke-generating canisters and smoke-generating cartridges.
  • - Dynamite, gunpowder, and plastic explosives.

HOLD BAGGAGE - LIST OF PROHIBITED ARTICLES

Passengers are not permitted to carry the following articles in their hold baggage:

Explosives and incendiary substances and devices – explosives and incendiary substances and devices capable of being used to cause serious injury or to pose a threat to the safety of aircraft, including:
  • - Ammunition.
  • - Blasting caps.
  • - Detonators and fuses.
  • - Mines, grenades, and other explosive military stores.
  • - Fireworks and other pyrotechnics.
  • - Smoke-generating canisters and smoke-generating cartridges.
  • - Dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives.

Not Allowed in Carry-On Baggage but may be checked

These items are usually prohibited in carry-on baggage but may be allowed in checked baggage with restrictions or prior approval.

The battery must be removed and carried in the cabin. If the battery cannot be removed, the bag is not permitted as checked or carry-on baggage.

Special Items and Guidelines 

Drones 
  • Allowed in checked baggage if the battery does not exceed 160 Wh. 
  • Batteries must be removed and carried in carry-on baggage. 
  • Only one spare battery allowed per passenger. 
  • Drone must remain powered off for the entire flight. 

Electronic and Regular Cigarettes 
  • Permitted in carry-on baggage only. 
  • Use on board is strictly prohibited. 
  • Electronic cigarettes are not allowed in checked baggage. 

Firearms and Ammunition (For Hunting/Sport Use Only) 
  • Must be declared at check-in and transported as special baggage. 
  • Weapons must be unloaded and disassembled. 
  • Ammunition must be packed separately and securely. 
  • A valid gun license and all required destination permits must be presented. 
  • Transport is allowed in checked baggage only. 

Lithium Batteries 
  • Allowed only in carry-on baggage, subject to the following limits: 

-Spare batteries 101–160 Wh: Max two per passenger. 

-For mobility aids: one battery up to 300 Wh, or two up to 160 Wh each. 

  • Loose or damaged batteries are strictly prohibited in all baggage. 

Camping Stoves and Fuel Containers 
  • Permitted in checked baggage only if: 

-Completely emptied of fuel. 

-Left uncapped for at least 6 hours to ventilate.

-Dry and free of vapor residue. 

Avalanche Rescue Backpacks 
  • Allowed with prior approval. 
  • Must contain no more than 200g of compressed gas and include a pressure relief valve. 
  • Can be packed in either carry-on or checked baggage if disarmed and protected from accidental activation. 

Smart Baggage 
  • Carry-on: The lithium battery must be removable; you must be able to disconnect it during travel. 
  • Checked baggage: Battery must be removed and carried in your hand baggage. 
  • If the battery cannot be removed, the bag is not permitted. 

Packing Guidelines and Responsibility

  • Baggage must be packed securely to withstand normal handling. 
  • Fragile items (e.g., musical instruments, artwork, sports equipment) should be packed with extra protection.
  • All checked baggage must be clearly labeled with the passenger’s name and contact details (email, phone number, address).
  • Items such as strollers, car seats, skis, golf bags, and bicycles are accepted as special or oversized baggage and should be packed accordingly.

  • Replica or Imitation Explosive Devices: Items that resemble explosives—such as fake bombs or dummy grenades—are strictly prohibited. 
  • Smoke-Generating Devices: Including smoke canisters and smoke cartridges used for visual effects or signaling. 
  • Slingshots and Catapults: Devices designed to launch projectiles are not permitted in the cabin, even if recreational in nature.
