Woodbury Common - The Ultimate Shopping Experience!

Planning a trip to New York and hoping to do some shopping? Why not try a day trip to Woodbury Common? Built for shopaholics who desire premium goods at bargain prices, Woodbury Common has it all. From the most premium brands in apparel, cosmetics, watches, jewelry, and other fashion accessories, to the most exclusive tipple brands.

Contrary to misguided belief, the outlet store is no bargain mall. Rather, high-end retailers move their overstock and unsold merchandise to the outlet and sell at discounted prices. As a result, millions flock to the Woodbury Commons to experience the grandeur and luxury and source for some of the most sought-after brands at heavily discounted prices of 20%-70%.

Where is Woodbury Common located?

The mall is located in Central Valley, New York. Just an hour North of New York City, and 25 minutes from New York Stewart International Airport, Woodbury Common is every shopper's paradise in New York. And with a backdrop of lush green hills looking out on the Woodbury Common, the topography of the place is a beauty to behold.

How to get to Woodbury Common

The mall is a popular day trip from New York, and as a result, many vehicles operate between New York City and the outlets. Uber and many other taxi companies are available for individual and group transportation at a reasonable fee. But if you are in a comfortable financial position, you could hire a more expensive door-to-door shuttle company that will pick you up from your hotel or home and drop you back off after shopping. If you do not have access to a vehicle, you can hop into any buses operating between New York City and the outlets.

Note that no trains run to Woodbury Commons. The closest train station nearby is in the neighboring town of Harriman. Although it is a five-minute drive, you will still require a taxi.

Finally, Woodbury Common is conveniently located only 25 minutes from Stewart International Airport, via I-87 S, so adding it to your agenda on your day of arrival or departure is the perfect move.

What to expect at Woodbury Common

The place is huge. So you'd better put your walking shoes on or buy some there. You need up to three hours to cover all the stores and if you really plan to scour, you'll need much longer. Opened in 1985, the giant contiguous outlet store now has 220 outlets. Many reputable designer labels have their individual stores spread across the area. The outlet is always expanding and adding new stores while the bargains and special promotions are constantly updated.

So, if you are big on shopping, it is hard not to get a little greedy. And you could easily be forgiven for running out of time and money or filling your bags to the brim with bargain shopping items.

Some of the popular designer brandsLink opens in a new tab housed in the outlet store include:

  • Gucci
  • Lacoste
  • Dolce and Gabbana.
  • Dior
  • Versace
  • Polo Ralph Lauren
  • Banana Republic
  • Prada
  • Armani
  • Dolce & Gabbana
  • Nike Factory Store
  • Yves St. Laurent
  • Burberry
  • Fendi
  • Chloe Coach
  • Last Call by Neiman
  • Valentino
  • Adidas
  • Balenciaga

The shopping haven feels like a relaxed colonial American-style village. To say nothing of the elegant architecture of the buildings, the neat finish and attention to detail, and the greenery that adds to the upscale atmosphere. You will find a smattering of designer shops and departmental stores. The layout of the outlet shops is quite nice. The shops are grouped in Stepford neighborhood groupings; Niagara, Saratoga, and Hudson Valley.

Moreover, the shops face inwards around a series of interconnected walkways that lead to open-air commons. The pathways are neatly paved and lined decoratively with the occasional pruned shrub or short tree. It was thoughtful of the management to use different color coding for separate wings of the mall. And as you'd wish, restrooms are spread across various locations within the mall. Not to forget the ample color-coded parking space.

Once you're done shopping and feeling exhausted, you can check into the various nice restaurants like Shake Shack and Parm. The eateries offer sumptuous foods and ample seating spaces, family areas, and outside eating areas with tables.

Best time to visit Woodbury Common

Some of the biggest tribulations of shopping at malls are busy and crowded parking areas, crowded pathways, and long lines. This is usually not an issue at Woodbury Common but the stores are definitely busier around the holidays, weekends, and during the afternoon. Therefore, if you prefer more personal space when shopping, we recommend scheduling your trip on weekdays, earlier during the day, or during lunch hours.

Opening hours vary between seasons and sometimes individual stores but are 10:00-20:00 (10 AM to 8 PM) Monday to Thursday and 10:00-21:00 (10 AM to 9 PM) Fridays to Sundays. Check the latest information for opening hours along with the weather forecast hereLink opens in a new tab.

Lots of shops offer pocket-friendly prices with additional discounts all year round. Check out the best deals during holidays and festive seasons. Consider joining the outlet's apps to get alerts on even better offers. On top of that, different shops have different gift cards and reward programs you can sign up for and save.

Aside from the obvious shopping dates like Black Friday, the second weekend in June is National Outlet Shopping Day, celebrated vigorously at Woodbury Common with major savings and great deals from world-renowned brands.

Is Woodbury Common worth a visit?

Combining a holiday in New York with a discounted designer shopping spree is a pretty tempting proposition. And if you're flying through Stewart International, adding Woodbury Common to your agenda on your day of arrival or departure is a no-brainer.

Remember, the cost of purchasing top-shelf merchandise from a designer warehouse in Manhattan can be outrageous and set you back as much as a new car. So unless spending huge amounts of money is your sport, be sure to seriously think about visiting Woodbury Common to browse for rare finds and high-end brands for less price.
