Still not sure why Mallorca belongs on your travel itinerary? Here’s what you need to know about this top Mediterranean destination.

Top Attractions in Mallorca

One reason Mallorca has a reputation as a must-visit locale is its attractions. There’s such a varied array of potential sights that one trip to Mallorca feels like multiple vacations in one.

Palma Catedral

Palma Catedral is labeled by most as the dominant structure on the Mallorca skyline. This cathedral boasts interior features created by artist Miquel Barcelo and designer Antoni Gaudi.

The site of Palma Catedral was once the location of a Medina Mayurka mosque. Construction for the cathedral began in 1300 and was completed in 1601.

It has a structure comprised primarily of Gothic elements that’s combined with roof terraces and Europe’s largest rose window.

Palma Catedral was restored after an earthquake in 1851; the restoration process sought to add neo-Gothic details to the cathedral’s Renaissance design.

Climb the 280 steps to reach the top of the cathedral and take in the fantastic views of the city and sea.

Palau de l’Almudaina

Palau de l’Almudaina is the symbolic residency of the King of Spain. While the King typically isn’t on-sight, this doesn’t lessen the architectural beauty of Paula de l’Almudaina.

This structure was originally an Islamic Fort, but King James II of Mallorca rebuilt it into a royal palace. The palace incorporates Gothic arches, grand rooms, lavish décor, and gorgeous uses of Romanesque marble.

Parc Natural de S’Albufera

The Parc Natural de S’Albufera contains 688 hectares (1650.6 acres) of protected wetlands and nature trails. If you like to birdwatch, a trip to Mallorca isn’t complete until you stop by Parc Natural de S’Albufera.

While admission to the park is free, you’ll need to acquire a permit from the nearby visitor center. Approximately 303 species call this park home.

It’s known that 64 species of birds use the park as their breeding grounds. There are also 400 plant species in the park, including wildflowers that bring exquisite splashes of color during the spring months.

Trail lengths vary from approximately 30 minutes to 3.5 hours, ensuring there’s an option that suits your fitness level. Many visitors love exploring the park thanks to the tranquility and peaceful silence of nature.

Palau March

The Palau March is one of the homes belonging to the March family (known for their extensive wealth). It functions as a museum that showcases several artistic pieces.

As you enter through the outdoor terrace, you’re immediately greeted by modern sculptures, including Corberó’s Orgue del Mar.

Once you’re inside, take in Dali lithographs and a collection of detailed belén figures. These belén figures are extremely detailed and include items associated with the birth of Christ, like angels and farm animals.

Artist Josep Maria Sert painted the ceiling of the Palau March’s music room and the main vault. His work uses different ideals (like reason and inspiration) to inspire his work.

Polléntia

Polléntia is the location of authentic Roman ruins. The Casas dels Dos Tresors (the House of the Two Treasures) is fantastically preserved; this gives you the chance to see an original Roman house.

You’ll also see what’s left of the Forum, the heart of Roman life, including shops and temples. The Teatre Romá (the Roman Theatre) is also in Polléntia.

This Roman Theatre held 1,000 spectators; parts of the front orchestra and seating sections for spectators are still intact.
